When and how did you start to photograph?<\/span><\/strong>
\n\/ I actually started photography around 7 years ago because I originally wanted to be a cinematographer. \u00a0Christopher Doyle, as an artist and person, is really inspiring to me and he has this style where he shoots his shots almost like he’s shooting a photograph. \u00a0Very slow scenes, well framed with very little movement, which I guess is characteristic of Asian cinema. \u00a0\u00a0So I bought a point and shoot camera, just like the one that Japanese photographer Hiromix used and tried to train my eye to get into film making. \u00a0Technology these days makes it much easier to make films now but back then it was a lot more expensive and difficult to just get into things.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the most important element in your photograph?<\/span><\/strong>
\n\/ I think the most important element in my photograph’s and all photography is being able to put your own stamp on your picture so that people who know your work can automatically see an advertisement for example that you did and say “hey Aaron took that.” \u00a0I think this is especially true when you’re doing commercial work. \u00a0There are more photographers out there now than ever so it’s becoming more and more of a goal for me to really stand myself apart from others.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\/ My photography style is always changing but the more pictures I take I start to develop preferences on the things that I like to shoot, how I like them to be shot, color palette, etc. \u00a0I’m still young though so I try to keep an open mind about things and not be stubborn. \u00a0I love watching films and other peoples photography for inspiration.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\/ I can’t really say that I have a favorite photo magazine. \u00a0Most of the photography that I see, I see on the internet. \u00a0Seeing photos on Flickr too can be very inspiring since I can see not only what my favorite professional photographers are doing but also the work of some amateur photographers out there. \u00a0I do like the photography in the magazine Apartamento though and I would love to work with them one day.<\/span><\/p>\n

How did you decide to come to Seoul?<\/span><\/strong>
\n\/ I moved to Seoul because I fell in love with someone. \u00a0I was here travelling and visiting my sister who was doing a student exchange program for a year and I met a girl who was living here and we just hit it off and as soon as I went back to America, I told my friends and family, sold my things, and bought a one way ticket to Korea. \u00a0We were together for two years but unfortunately we broke up three years ago. \u00a0In the process of living here, I’ve learned so much about my culture, my heritage and about myself and I think moving to Seoul was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What was your first impression of Seoul?<\/strong>
\n<\/span>\/My sister was living in Sinchon, an area famous for it’s nightlife and universities in the area. \u00a0As soon as I got off the bus with my bags I was blown away by the energy. \u00a0People were literally out of the streets into the road and to me it reminded me of Spain’s Running of the Bulls event. \u00a0It was exciting but I felt like I could also be trampled at any second if I wasn’t looking at where I was going.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\/ The markets are nice because they remind me of how I guess Korea used to be. \u00a0I love talking to different vendors and developing relationships with them. \u00a0You see that now with farmer’s markets in the US and it’s great but very trendy and it doesn’t really feel that way in Korea.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

What is your future project?<\/span><\/strong>
\n\/ Right now I’m planning on making a continuation of the short film I made with a friend two years ago about Korean diaspora. \u00a0We’ve met so many ethnic Koreans from different countries and we made a short documentary profiling a lot them and trying to tell their story, opinions and experiences. \u00a0Making that film really made me feel alive as an artist and we both felt the need to go back and work on something together again. \u00a0I’d also like to put out my first photo book too but I still have some more work to do for that. \u00a0The future for me is all about working, staying focused, and trying to grow as much as I can and do all things that I want to do.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
